IF YOU ARE NEW TO YOGA
Many people say that they are not flexible enough to do yoga, but that is precisely why they need to do it. Yoga (and the teachers at Yoga Body Space) will always meet you right where you are. . . whether you are looking to improve your general fitness, for a support for your other sports activities, to reduce stress or address an injury, or even just curious as to what this yoga thing is all about. . . we will happily welcome you to class, and do our part to ensure you have a safe and fulfilling experience.
There are a few things that you can do as well:
Wear comfortable workout clothing. You might want to go with something slightly fitted as baggy clothes can often get in the way of poses. You will also be barefoot.
At the beginning of class, inform the instructor that you are new to yoga. He or she will provide modifications of certain poses and help you during class. PLEASE be sure to mention any physical conditions or limitations, any recent injuries or chronic pain.
This is not a ‘hot yoga’ studio. However, we have an excellent heating system that will always ensure a comfortable room temperature.
If you develop a regular practice, you will want your own mat. DisChem sells reasonable ‘starter mats’ for less than R200. We have rental mats available for R20 per session. Towels can be rented for R20 as well.
If you wish, bring a water bottle with you as we do not sell water.
Which class should you attend?
With the exception of the Intermediate Vinyasa classes, Beginners are welcome in any of our classes. However, the very best options for absolute beginners are:
Any YIN Class or any SET SEQUENCE Class
The Vinyasa and Iyengar classes can also accommodate Beginners, just please arrive early enough to have a good conversation with the teacher.
PRIVATE YOGA SESSIONS are also available and can be a nice way to introduce your body to the practice. Speak with us at reception or with any teacher.
