Sara De Beer
Sara likens a Vinyasa yoga sequence to a story. Through play, shape making, conscious movement and breath, a narrative is revealed. While the story is mutable and unwritten, it offers us an opportunity to pay close attention and can act as a guide on the journey to self transformation. She believes yoga helps us to become clear, consistent, playful, open and strong. She loves teaching yoga because she loves stories and art and shapes and is interested in what makes us human.
Sara began to practice yoga when she was a teenager. She accompanied her mother, who had been severely injured, to Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga in the Iyengar tradition and met her first mentor, Andre Sternberg in Cape Town. She witnessed first hand the healing potential of yoga. She later studied with Jim Harrington and received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate in the Ashtanga tradition in 2010. She is inspired by Patrick Creelman and has studied with him both in Cape Town and in Hong Kong. Her teaching style is a fusion of all that she has learned--elements of Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara and Synergy, which makes for a dynamic and intuitive flowing sequence. Sara may incorporate props to facilitate opening and alignment through support and foundation. The benefits and changes she experienced within her own Yoga practise during her pregnancy with her daughter Stella Rumi, have inspired her to teach Pre-Natal Yoga. Her intention is to create a safe and sacred space for all practitioners to explore breath, movement and connection.
