I am writing to thank you for visiting and practicing with us in these first few months of our existence. Some of you have only been once or twice; some of you we see most everyday. Regardless, we love being a part of the Cape Town yoga community and work everyday to create a supportive environment for anyone starting or deepening their yoga practice.
THE SCHEDULE is a major area of focus, as we continue to refine and align our offerings with what will best serve this community. In August we will introduce PILATES MAT CLASSES to the schedule.
While our wonderful Lara Roux takes a brief break to attend a family wedding abroad, Karen Amato will teach a Classical Pilates Mat class on Wednesdays at 12:30pm -- 10, 17 and 24 August. (Lara will resume teaching Wed. 12:30pm as one of her regular Vinyasa slots from 31 August.)
From 29 AUGUST we will officially add TWO one-hour Classical Pilates Mat classes to our schedule: Mondays at 12:30pm and Thursdays at 11am. Karen Amato will take the Monday class; Louise O'Neill will take the Thursday class. No supplement will be charged.
MEDITATION. Is it part of your practice? Most of us begin our journey with the physical practice, the practice of Asana--the positions and shapes we move through and hold in a class. But over time, many people begin to find that more than anything, they long for those few quiet minutes is Savasana at the end of class, or the first breaths of settling down in child's pose as a class begins. And if that is you, then you are already approaching a meditation practice. Please feel welcome in our meditation room anytime. There are some nice firm cushions on the floor for sitting, and a bench if being off the ground is your preference. No special knowledge or skills are required to enter; it is simply there for anyone who would like a place to sit undisturbed and follow the breath. . . (think 'so' as you breath in; think 'hum' as you breath out; repeat)
Join us for A Meditation Special Event with Hye Tong Sunim (Buddhist Monk) from South Korea--Saturday 20 August 5-7pm. Colette Schachat will host this event. The evening will be comprised of meditation and seonju (led taoist breathing exercises,) a Dharma Talk followed by time for questions, and tea. There is no charge for this event, but donations are welcome.

We are very excited to announce that Mysore Yoga Cape Town will be starting an afternoon Ashtanga program at Yoga Body Space. Mysore is a city in the South of India from which Ashtanga Yoga originates. When practicing Ashtanga Yoga in the Mysore-style tradition, learning and progressing is done at the student's own speed and capability. These classes are open to all level of students. You will always work directly with a qualified teacher in a group setting.
To celebrate, MYCPT (Mysore Yoga Cape Town) will run a special immersion month. How will it work?
Commit to a minimum of 3/maximum of 5 classes per-week for the month.
Choose the days that you will practice on depending on your schedule.
Participate in two workshops especially designed for you, covering yoga philosophy and the foundational tools of the practice.

So, here's to August! It is still cold outside, but we always heat up the studio before class, and you will always be welcomed warmly on arrival. As so many of you have kindly pointed out, we have phenomenal teachers. They see themselves as students first, devoted to their practice, and always learning with a desire to share their knowledge.
